At NetNada, we help organisations achieve environmental accountability through precise carbon accounting and actionable strategies. Our collaboration with CHOICE, a leader in consumer advocacy, demonstrates how sustainability and transparency can strengthen organisational trust. CHOICE’s FY24 Carbon Emissions Summary Report marks significant progress in monitoring and managing their environmental impact while expanding the scope of their emissions reporting.

The Challenge

As a consumer advocacy organisation committed to ethical practices, CHOICE sought to strengthen its environmental accountability. In FY24, CHOICE aimed to expand its emissions reporting to include Scope 3 emissions, covering supply chain activities, logistics, and professional services. This broader assessment presented a challenge: accurately capturing data across a growing network of 858 suppliers, compared to just two in FY23.

CHOICE also wanted to highlight their transition to renewable energy sources, improve efficiency in logistics and office operations, and identify key contributors to their carbon footprint. Their goal was to align their sustainability practices with their commitment to transparency and consumer trust.

NetNada’s Strategic Approach

To support CHOICE’s sustainability objectives, NetNada implemented a structured approach focused on comprehensive reporting, boundary setting, and actionable insights.

  1. Comprehensive Emissions Reporting:
CHOICE’s FY24 Carbon Emissions Summary Report captured emissions across:
    • Scope 1 (Direct Emissions): 0.411 tCO₂e from fuel combustion.
    • Scope 2 (Indirect Emissions): 0.000 tCO₂e, reflecting a complete transition to renewable energy sources.
    • Scope 3 (Other Indirect Emissions): 1,806.311 tCO₂e, from professional services, logistics, ICT services, and office supplies.
  2. The total emissions of 1,806.722 tCO₂e in FY24 represent a significant increase from FY23’s 18.486 tCO₂e due to the expanded assessment boundary.
  3. Boundary Setting with the GHG Protocol:
NetNada guided CHOICE in adopting the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol to establish clear organisational and operational boundaries. This robust framework ensured comprehensive reporting of emissions across their expanded supply chain and operational activities.
  4. Visualised Dashboards for Actionable Insights:
NetNada’s dashboards provided CHOICE with clear data visualisations to identify high-impact areas. Professional services emerged as the largest contributor, accounting for 609.25 tCO₂e, followed by logistics at 352.97 tCO₂e and office supplies at 185.30 tCO₂e. These insights enabled CHOICE to prioritise strategies for emissions reduction and operational efficiency.

Results and Benefits

Through their collaboration with NetNada, CHOICE achieved key milestones in their sustainability journey:

  • Expanded Emissions Accountability:
By including Scope 3 emissions and assessing 858 suppliers, CHOICE significantly enhanced the scope and transparency of their reporting.
  • Renewable Energy Transition:
Reporting zero Scope 2 emissions underscores CHOICE’s commitment to renewable energy sources or carbon-neutral providers, reducing their operational carbon footprint.
  • Supply Chain Engagement:
The inclusion of a broad supplier network reflects CHOICE’s dedication to promoting sustainability throughout their value chain.
  • Targeted Reduction Opportunities:
Insights into high-impact areas, such as professional services and logistics, equip CHOICE to develop focused strategies for improving efficiency and reducing emissions.

Conclusion

CHOICE’s expanded FY24 Carbon Emissions Summary Report highlights their dedication to environmental accountability and operational transparency. By transitioning to renewable energy, engaging suppliers, and addressing key emission sources, CHOICE sets a benchmark for sustainability within the consumer advocacy sector.

At NetNada, we are proud to support CHOICE in their journey towards a greener future. Together, we are proving that transparency and sustainability are not just goals but essential pillars for organisations striving to build trust and lead by example.
